NEVADA DAY / HALLOWEEN

Happy Nevada Day to everyone!  Did you know that Nevada Day commemorates the admission of the state of Nevada into the union on October 31, 1864.  The first known observance of Nevada Day (originally known as "Admission Day") was by the Pacific Coast Pioneer society during the 1870s.  It was not until 1933 that the state legislature designated October 31 as Nevada Day and a state holiday.

October 31st? That is Halloween... i bet not many people know that Nevada officially became a state on Halloween.  I wonder if Andrew Jackson (U.S. President at the time) was dressed up as a Ghost or Vampire when he signed the documents making Nevada a state.  I cant image he was BUT its cool to think about, right?!

What is everyone going to dress up as this year?  We all love hearing about your great costume ideas, our patients are so creative! Did I ever say we have the best patients in the world because we do.  You guys (and girls) ROCK!

As Halloween arrives so draws an end to our 2010 Pumpkin Contest!  I would like to thank everyone for taking part in the contest and voting (stay tuned, we will post the winner sometime next week).  !

To everyone going out trick-or-treating this weekend... be safe.  Stay in a group and dont stray from your parents.  Have a great night and we'll see you in the office next week!

Heckethorn Elementary School Fall Festival

Last Friday we participated in our 2nd fall festival of the year at Heckethorn Elementary.  What a GREAT event!  It was the first fall festival the school had ever put on but you would have never known.  Heckethorn and their PTO did an amazing job with everything.

Food was donated by North Side Nathan's Pizza, every grade had a booth set up with carnvial games and a DJ was blasting music all night.  The games included the toilet paper throw, water ballon popping, bean bag toss through a toothless smile (thats was the game we created for the event... stay tuned for some pictures) and a really great scavenger hunt.  Students and their families were out in full force, many of whom were already dressed up in their trick-or-treat threads.  I personally saw at least four Lady Gaga costumes...

At our booth we handed out informational brochures, business cards and pens.  Those, however, were not nearly as big of a hit as the sour patch kids and silly bands!  The silly bands/candy were given away to everyone who tried our bean bag toss.  Everyone that played recieved a piece of candy and a cool set of Halloween silly bands.  Let me tell you, this was my first experience with silly bands.... and i have to say i will never forget it! WOW! I remember when Pogs were big, I remember when Magic Cards were in but NEVER have I EVER seen anything like the 2010 Silly Band craze!  Kids go absolutely bananas for them.

With how busy we have been lately we did not have much time to prepare for this event.  Somehow on Friday we all pulled together and got it done just in the nick of time.  After it was all said and done and we were able to catch our breathe everyone was smiling and happy to have taken part in such a great event.  Thank you Heckethorn for allowing us to participate in your fall festival! See you next year!

A brand new week

Can you believe that Halloween is almost here?  2 weeks... WOW!  As all hallows eve inches closer so does the conclusion to our 2nd Annual Pumpkin Contest.  The votes are still coming in and everyone is itching to see which pumpkin is going to takes this years top prize.  One by one we have pulled Dr. Hansen aside, trying to get him to spill the results.  Despite our best efforts he is very tight lipped,  I guess we'll all have to wait until November 1st to find out (check back November 1st and we will announce the winner and post a picture).

Jordan had her baby shower this weekend and all the girls from Hansen Ortho attended.  Most of Dr. Lalande's staff came too!  I know Jordan really appreciated having everyone there... especially since she is now on bed rest and can't leave her house.  Talk about STIR-CRAZY!  The office is a little more hectic without her being here but we're adjusting and filling in as best we can.  Jordan if you are reading this: COME BACK! We miss you.

Have a great day everyone!

2 babies on the way...

Today our lab tech/assistant, Jordan, was ordered to go on bed rest by her Doctor.  She is carrying twins and needs to take it easy until they are born.  Anyone that knows her understands that this is going to be very hard for her... because she never stops moving! =) We are going to miss her very much and are already counting down the days till she comes back! Good luck Jordan, we cant wait to meet Payton and Jaxon!

Fall Fest-Saville

Last night Dr. Hansen sponsored the food at Saville Middle School's Fall Fest-Saville (What a catchy title)!  Ryan and Janell were also there as they helped hand out food and drinks to hordes of hungry kids.  In fact, we had so much food that by the end of the night we were practically giving it away... nothing like a free hot dog or slice of pizza!
The event was held in the quad of the school and 850 people were expected to have attended, including many of our patients.  It was great to see them outside the office, in more of a natural environment.  Mingling with them made us all feel extremely lucky that all of our patients are so awesome.  I know a lot (and by a lot i mean all) of sports teams use this cliche everyday but in this case i truly believe it, we have the BEST patients in the entire world! =)
Fall Fest-Saville was a great night to meet new families and friends.  We handed out over 450 informational fliers about braces and orthodontics,  as they say (here comes another cliche) if we can help one person from that night then it is all worth it.  I am not personally a big fan of using cliches but in this case, or both cases from above, they ring true.
Many people throughout the night made it a point of order to personally come up to Dr. Hansen or any of his staff to say 'Thanks'.  It was very unexpected but greatly appreciated.  Everyone was so kind in saying 'Thank You' and how much they appreciated Dr. Hansen's generosity.  From all of us at Hansen Orthodontics, thank you and it was our pleasure!  I would also like to say a BIG, thank you to Saville Middle School for allowing us to help out with their 1st annual Fall Fest-Saville.  We look forward to seeing you next year!
